This week, Justin Gerard is in Altoona, PA for IluXcon. In preparation, he’s done some new oil paintings. You can see the work in progress on his blog, but here’s one of the new finished pieces.
Justin and I will also be attending the first annual CTN Animation Expo next weekend in Burbank, CA. If you’re out there, come by and see us at half-booth 37. Justin will also do a live demonstration and a Q&A session. I think it’s going to be a great show all around.
Last year, Ligonier approached Portland Studios about creating an animated version of the two picture books. Taking artwork from a picture book and translating that into animation was an interesting challenge, but the end result is really nice. This style of animated, moving-pictures is becoming more and more common, so I think Ligonier is definitely on to something. You can see the trailers that Ligonier created below.
The main animator for this project was Danny McNight from Portland Studios. Zach Franzen also helped with storyboards and animation.
Recently Justin Gerard opened up an Etsy shop where he plans to sell prints, but today he’s also adding several original oil paintings that he prepared for MicroVisions back in April.
These oils and several other prints will be available this morning at 10:00 AM.
When we were at Comic-Con a couple weeks ago, John Chiafos from 310 Pictures dropped by the Portland Studios booth and interviewed Justin Gerard. Here’s the interview:
Be sure to check out some of their work on their website. Hope to see you guys again next year!
Justin referenced his personal project inspired by The Hobbit, and you can see more of that here at his blog.
