I would like to send a warm welcome to Zach Franzen, the newest illustrator represented by the Silver Agency. Zach worked for Portland Studios for several years as an assistant illustrator, story board artist, and writer. He’s developed a wonderfully unique style, and I’m excited to be a part of his blossoming career. Here’s one of his newest paintings:

You can see more of his portfolio here, and his personal blog is called A to Zach.

Last weekend, I attended the first inaugural C2E2, the first Comic-Con hosted in Chicago. It’s nothing like its San Diego cousin, but it was Comic-Con just the same (all of your usual costumes, cool knick-knacks, great and horrible illustration). Some of the highlights for me were getting to interact with some of the illustrators in Artist’s Alley. Here were a few of my favorites:
Ashton Gallagher – a native Chicagoan.
Alayna Lemmer
David Seidman works with Zenescope for the most part. They do some creepy, creepy stuff. I purchased a twisted version of Pinocchio that I still need to read.
My favorite purchase would have to be The Anthology Project. It’s a beautiful collection of short stories put together by Joy Ang and Nick Thornborrow. It reminded me a lot of the Flight Anthologies, and it has a similar charm. It’s a group of friends who just decided to put something out there. Gotta love that.
For those confused by the image of Wrigley Field below…it has nothing to do with C2E2, but no trip to Chicago would be worth it without a visit to one of its greatest shrines.
